Does Olaplex Work For Hair Growth: The Truth About Olaplex Treatment For Thinning And Hair Loss

Does Olaplex work for hair growth? Well I’ve explained this in the article below along with reviewing Olaplex shampoo for hair loss and how long it takes for this treatment to work.

The latest hair care trend among Instagram influencers is using Olaplex products. Almost all hair care experts I’ve seen online and read about in magazines are recommending this brand.

But let’s be honest? Is Olaplex worth it?

A lot of people say, yes it is. Olaplex is actually pretty good at reducing damage from bleach, coloring, heat, etc. and reducing frizz and split ends.

But what about hair growth? Does Olaplex work for hair growth?

There are several products or “treatments” in the Olaplex hair care line. These different products are supposed to work for different hair issues.

This includes their Number 1-6 products that include shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, oils, and hair serums.

Does Olaplex Work For Hair Growth

The simple answer to this is that no, Olaplex doesn’t work for hair growth. It doesn’t work for reducing hair loss, stopping hair thinning, or promoting new hair growth.

Olaplex hair kits instead focus on reducing hair damage from heat, overprocessing, bleaching, mechanical damage (due to tight hairstyles), etc.

But to be fair, using Olaplex products can help grow your hair in a roundabout way. Let me be clear that it won’t cause your hair follicles to spout new hair strands. Nor will it increase the density or thickness of your hair.

However, as Olaplex reduces damage, frizz, split ends, etc. it reduces breakage and allows hair to grow long without giving you reason to trim it.

Also, as regular Olaplex use (especially the conditioners) can help detangle your hair, it can reduce hair loss due to force on hair while brushing and combing.

All About Olaplex Hair Care

Olaplex is a relatively new brand compared to nioxin as it was established in 2014 in California. Unlike most hair care brands that seem to follow a comprehensive approach to hair, Olaplex focuses more on healing damage and reducing hair breakage.

This brand has over 100 patents and focuses on creating formulas that can help in Bond building.

Which means that olaplex products exclusively focus on repairing protein bonds in hair that have weakened due to damage, making these products excellent for Natural African American hair, colored hair, bleached hair, keratin-treated hair and other hair types that are prone to damage.

Also unlike other hair care products, olaplex does not have different systems but it does classify its products from 1 to 10 depending on the order in which you are supposed to use them. The 10 Olaplex products in order are:

  • Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment
  • Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier
  • Olaplex No.2 Bond Perfector
  • Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector
  • Olaplex No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
  • Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
  • Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil
  • Olaplex No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask

Olaplex makes use of its patented formulas that are often top secret.  However, one of the game changing ingredients in Olaplex is the Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. This helps repair the loss of protein due to excessive heat styling, bleaching and coloring on hair.

Is The Olaplex Hair Growth Oil Worth It?

There is no separate Olaplex “Hair Growth Oil”. There is however a Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil that has a function similar to a hair growth oil.

However, it is NOT a treatment like Minoxidil or Rosemary oil that can promote new hair growth. It is an oil designed to restore protein bonds in hair strands that are broken because of damage due to coloring, bleaching, excessive heat use, etc.

The Olaplex Bonding oil is also great for restoring smoothness and shine to hair. But it is in no way a “hair growth” oil.

But other than that it’s a great product. In fact, in my opinion it is the BEST product from the Olaplex hair kit.

It is a bit expensive. A small 1 oz bottle retails for $28 and it is a bit much. However, it is a great investment if you color and bleach your hair often or if your hair is too dehydrated and damaged.

I’ve also noticed that the oil is very effective and easily spreads through hair. So you need only 3-4 drops if you have medium to long hair. I made my 1 oz. bottle last for at least 90 days!

Olaplex is a hair treatment that promises to help restore damaged hair and prevent future damage. And yes, Olaplex is beneficial for fine thin hair. It helps to smooth and restore the hair’s texture, while reducing frizz and adding shine.

Some people say that it is good for fine thin hair, while others claim that it doesn’t work well on thick or coarse hair. So, what’s the verdict? Is Olaplex really effective at restoring damaged hair and preventing further damage?

I personally think that there is no single answer to this question – everyone’s hair requires different treatments in order to achieve healthy and beautiful locks. However, some users report that

However, I can safely say that Olaplex uses lightweight ingredients like sunflower oil, moringa oil, and argan oil, etc. instead of shea butter and other rich ingredients that can weigh fine hair down. So it is better for fine hair compared to most products out there.

Olaplex has helped improve their dryness, frizziness, and overall scalp health. Some also say that it helps reduce breakage and reoccurrence of split ends.

While there are still some unknowns about the full extent of its effects, based on these limited results alone, most experts would likely agree that Olaplex can be helpful for repairing thinning hair.

Olaplex Shampoo For Hair Loss Reviews

olaplex hair growth shampoo

The Olaplex shampoo uses patented technology perfectly to promote healthy looking hair with each wash.

It also delivers the moisture you need without weighing your length down. I used it along with the conditioner twice a week.

However, it is not created for treating hair loss. The shampoo is suitable for hair that has been exposed to frequent chemical treatments, hair coloring like me, bleaching, heat styling, and so on.

So in a way it can help control hair loss by reducing breakage due to hair damage. This isn’t the same as treating hair loss at the roots.

The Olaplex shampoo is good enough for reducing hair loss from damage as it contains T-Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, which is a unique patented technology. It is the main special ingredient used for the Olaplex hair care products that restores hair from the inside out, protects hair from damage and smoothes out the hair cuticles.

How Long Will It Take For Olaplex To Work For Hair Growth

Olaplex won’t give your hair growth. However, it can reduce hair loss due to breakage and damage and indirectly contribute to having long, soft hair.

And for this you need to use Olaplex hair care kits for at least 8-10 weeks. You can see the effects of the Olaplex Bonding Oil and Hair Cream almost instantly or at least by a few days.

Regular use of the Olaplex shampoo, conditioner, and oil will make your hair look great.

Conclusion

So, overall The Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and the No 7 Bonding Oil is perfect for all hair types and while it is a bit pricey, it is worth the investment.

However, it won’t work for hair growth, at least directly.

It can help reduce hair damage, split ends, frizz and dehydration and therefore reduce breakage due to these reasons.

So to answer your question, Olaplex doesn’t work for hair growth. It can indirectly control hair loss by reducing breakage due to damage.

It won’t work like Minoxidil or the Nioxin systems that are focuses on making hair follicles grow new hair.
