Want to know which is better: Cloud Nine Vs GHD Hair Straightener review? Well I have used, reviewed and compared the flat irons in my article.

Being a hair stylist, I have to admit that I get attracted towards trying any new products that come out in the market. But two luxury flat irons caught my attention – the Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro and GHD Platinum + Hair Straightener.

Let’s just say, as a frequent product reviewer, this one’s by far one of the hardest comparison reviews I have worked on, because both these products were almost at par with each other.

Usage and Pricing

In this section, you can check out the comparison I’ve made between the features and specifications of both these products.

Product design:

The product design of both these devices is very sleek and lightweight. They are both ergonomic in nature.

What I really like is that both these devices come with lengthy cords, which make it comfortable to use. The Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro has a 3 meter swivel cord, whilst the GHD Platinum + Hair Straightener has a 2.7 meter swivel cord.

Type and size of plates:

Both these devices have ceramic plates which are known to be one of the best materials to use as straightener plates because they can give the hair a smooth and silky finish.

The Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro has 1.5 inch plates, while the GHD Platinum + Hair Straightener has 1 inch plates.

Temperature and voltage:

Both these devices support dual voltage, which is great for travel use.

But while the Cloud Nine product has a variable temperature range of 100 – 200°C, the GHD straightener has a fixed temperature setting of 185°C. It is proven that high temperatures can “denature the proteins in your hair shaft”. (Barreto, Taynara et al. “Straight to the Point: What Do We Know So Far on Hair Straightening?.” Skin appendage disorders vol. 7,4 (2021): 265-271. doi:10.1159/000514367)

Safety features:

The safety feature of an automatic shut-off after 30 minutes of inactivity is present in both these devices to ensure user safety.

But what I also really liked is that both these devices come with heat resistant protective plate guards, which can help protect surfaces from getting damaged while the product is still hot.

Product size:

In terms of product size both these devices are lightweight just around 0.50 grams, which I feel is a good feature of these devices because they do not tire the wrist while in use for straightening sessions.

Ease of use:

Both these products have professional length 360° swivel cords which are absolutely convenient for use even if the power source is at a distance. The cord rotates as per the direction of the hand and doesn’t tangle at all.

Versatility:

These devices are both very versatile, because they can be used for styling the hair in any way as per the user’s requirement. So whether it’s straightening or curling, it can help you get which style you wish to.

Pricing:

While both these devices are super expensive as compared to other such products in the market, the cost of the Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro is way more expensive as compared to the GHD Platinum + Hair Straightener.

Review

So I have used both these products over a period of one year, having bought the Cloud Nine The Wide Iron around three months before I bought the GHD Platinum + Hair Straightener.

Well, let me quickly go over some of the features and what I liked about these devices.

Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro Vs GHD Platinum Hair Straightener
GHD Platinum Hair Straightener Review

Starting off with the product design, well I have to admit that the Cloud Nine straightener looked way more fancier than the GHD one, even in terms of its packaging. But its looks are not the main part of a product after all, right?

Getting to the type and size of the plates, well, both these devices have ceramic plates which are one of the best straightener plate materials and undoubtedly, they gave my hair a lovely smooth and silky finishing look, whereas previously my hair would look dry and dull.

But in terms of the size of the plates, I will have to say that I did prefer the size of the Cloud Nine straightener a little more, personally, because it has 1.5 inch plates while the GHD straightener has just 1 inch plates and as my hair is thick and voluminous, the thicker plates made it easier to work with my hair.

Also, these devices both support dual voltage and can be used even while on travel. But another thing I liked better about the Cloud Nine device is its variable temperature of 100 – 200°C, which gave me more control, as compared to the GHD product’s fixed temperature of 185°C.

As for the safety features of both these devices, they are at par because they both come with the automatic shut-off after 30 minutes of inactivity along with a protective case to keep surfaces away from damage.

Also, the size of both these products is lightweight and is super convenient even for use for long hair styling sessions, which is most essential, because heavy devices can tire out the wrist. Along with this, their lengthy 360° swivel cords are really convenient because they do not tangle with hand rotation and can be plugged in even into a distant power socket.

Coming to its versatility, well, be it beachy waves, tight curls or poker straight hair, these devices can give you whichever style you want to achieve as these devices are very versatile in their use.

Lastly, the reason I feel like the Cloud Nine straightener costs so much more than the GHD straightener (even though both are very expensive), is because the Cloud Nine product has a few advanced features.

The final takeaway: Which is my pick?

Well, both these devices were user-friendly and did a great job at styling my hair, so it was definitely a tough pick for me.

But the reason I will pick the Cloud Nine The Wide Iron Pro as my personal choice is because I feel like it has a few more better features as compared to the GHD straightener in terms of its temperature range and size of plates.

But overall, since the GHD straightener is cheaper in price, I would still think it is worth it!
