Hims Thick Fix Shampoo Ingredients + Review

Hims Thick Fix Shampoo Ingredients + Review 2024

Is the HIMS Thick Fix Shampoo good for your hair? Find out in my review below.

I was on the lookout for a shampoo that could give my hair a more fuller look and increase the thickness of my hair.

What I had noticed is that over the years, my hair had succumbed to excessive thinning down and my hair soon lost its thick and lustrous look.

As I was talking to a friend about the issue I was facing, I was told to try out the Hims Thick Fix Shampoo.

Well, I wasn’t too certain whether a shampoo could actually “fix” my hair thinning and make my hair look and feel fuller, but unless I tried it out, I wouldn’t know right? Everything needs a chance after all. So I did! I tried out this shampoo.

I must say that the results of this product were pretty impressive and definitely much above my expectations.

    Water/Aqua/H20

Water in most hair care products (and other cosmetics) is the chief component of the formula as it’s the solvent which dissolves all the other ingredients.

The water used in hair care products is sterile and deionized. This means there are no minerals in this water as they can interfere with the other ingredients.

Water-based hair products, especially conditioners are lighter, spread easily and help hydrate your hair if there are humectants (like glycerin, etc.) present in the formula.

    Sodium Xylenesulfonate

Sodium Xylenesulfonate is basically a surfactant that helps remove oiliness, dirt, and grime from your hair. It is also a thickening agent that helps improve the viscosity of a shampoo.

The ingredient also acts as a wetting agent, helping the shampoo spread and lather easily to your hair.

    Cocamidopropyl Betaine

Cocamidopropyl Betaine or CAPB is a type of cleanser that is derived from coconut oil.

It’s often used in shampoos in place of harsh surfactants like Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Both of which can strip hair dye, remove moisture and irritate scalp skin.

CAPB however is milder and gentler and even has moisturizing properties.

Most sulfate-free shampoos do not lather well or clean hair very thoroughly but as this shampoo contains this natural cleanser, it’s very good for removing grease and dirt from deep within your scalp without stripping it of moisture.

    Glycerin

Glycerin is used in shampoos to act as a humectant. These attract moisture to your strands, hydrating them and then preventing the moisture from escaping.

This makes glycerin an excellent ingredient to use on low porosity hair, dehydrated hair, damaged hair, etc.

Hydrated hair is generally more elastic and less prone to breakage, hence glycerin helps reduce hair fall this way.

    Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is derived from the steam distillation of the tea tree plant leaf. It is widely regarded for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

The Australian Aborigines people have been using tea tree leaves for its medicinal properties since ages to treat skin ailments, fungal and bacterial infections

There has also been considerable research to show that the topical application of tea tree oil can help reduce fungal infections on the skin and scalp

In cosmetics, tea tree oil is used to treat acne, oily skin, redness and inflammation. Similarly in shampoos, this essential oil is added to reduce a flaky scalp dandruff, redness, inflammation and itchiness.

There is also high demand for tea tree oil products for the scalp as it is known to have a clarifying effect. So it’s great for oily scalp types too!

Product Review: Hims Thick Fix Shampoo

There are a few things I particularly liked about this shampoo and no sooner I started observing the results of this product. I have been using this product for around 2 months now.

Firstly, I really liked the main ingredients of both the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo contained saw palmetto as its main ingredient.

This ingredient is known to help increase hair density and I definitely observed the effects of this ingredient. It for sure did make my hair look fuller and reduced my hair loss to a certain extent (but not completely).

So I feel like this could be the reason my hair began to appear looking fuller (wherein I saw results after a couple of weeks).

Secondly, the conditioner contained niacinamide as its main ingredient, which is known for its hydration properties. It made my hair feel much softer than before and kept my hair well-moisturized.

In addition to this, this ingredient also helps boost hair health as it can promote better and quicker hair repair. So I noticed that my hair fall reduced, which was earlier caused by hair breakage. It improved the texture of my hair like never before.

It is gentle on the hair and scalp as this shampoo contains no sulfates.

This shampoo also has good cleansing properties and it makes my hair feel fresh after every wash. Also, the smell of this product is very subtle and refreshing.

I paid $14.99 for this shampoo and conditioner set of 190 ml (6.4 Fl.oz.), which I felt was pretty much worth the price, as the product showed good  results overall.

All in all, I feel like this shampoo can help make your hair appear more fuller, while reducing hair breakage and contributing to the reduction of hair thinning.

This is how it can increase hair thickness (which I feel is an increase in the overall appearance of hair density).

How to use this shampoo with the Hims Thick Fix Conditioner

This shampoo can be used like any other regular cleansing shampoo, so all you need to do is make sure to wet your hair properly before applying shampoo.

Once your hair is fully wet, take a little shampoo into your palm, rub it together and apply it evenly all over your scalp and hair, distributing it evenly from the roots to the tips of your hair strands. Make sure to massage it in well, using your fingertips for the best effects.

Then, let the shampoo sit on your hair for a couple of minutes and once it absorbs in, you can rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Next, condition your hair using the Hims Thick Fix conditioner for the best effects. If you do not have this conditioner, you could also use any other conditioner of your choice.

Lastly, wash it off under running water, making sure that there is no residue left on the hair strands.

Here’s a tip from my side – you could use cool or cold water when washing off your conditioner. The reason I do this is because it helps lock in the moisture from the conditioner, into the hair strands.

My Feature-wise Rating of the Hims Thick Fix Shampoo

    Hair cleansing ability 4.4/5
Gentleness on the scalp and hair 4.4/5
    Effectiveness of the product 4.5/5
    Fragrance 4.4/5
    Pricing 4.5/5

    The final takeaway

After using this product for around 2 months, I can definitely say it is worth it!

I really like the ingredient composition of both the shampoo and conditioner, each having their own main ingredients that can help boost hair health, increase hair density, improve hair texture and make the hair appear fuller.

So if you are looking for a shampoo and conditioner that can help solve these hair issues, I’d definitely recommend trying this product!
