Are you curious about the differences between Moroccanoil vs Redken? Read on to find out all the key points that you need to know before making a decision.
Do you sometimes want to try out an all-new hairstyle, but your annoying hair frizz ruins your plans? Well, my hair has been facing this issue from so many years. From trying out hair oils to hair serums, to hair gels, nothing seemed to work.
Although I am guilty of having contributed to my hair dryness and development of frizz, (as I had frequently dyed my hair and also straightened my hair several times in the past), whatever the reason, after a point in time, I was absolutely fed up with it!
I just wished my hair too would look like those in those hair advertisements – lovely hair with luscious curls and absolutely no frizz.

But most of the brands that I tried that had anti-frizz shampoos didn’t really work for my hair, which was really disappointing.
After some good searching over the internet about product brands and their ingredients to find the right frizz reduction shampoo, I finally stumbled upon two noteworthy brands – Moroccanoil and Redken.
Here’s everything you need to know about these brands!
Moroccanoil vs. Redken
Moroccanoil was co-founded over a decade ago by Carmen Tal. Their belief is using their signature ingredient “argan oil” in their products in order to give the hair the boost it requires.
They wish to create products that inspire confidence in the people who use them. Therefore, they have products that cater to all hair types and all hair textures.
Initially, Moroccanoil started off as one single product for hair care, and today, they have evolved into multiple products for both haircare and also body care, all made from the finest of quality ingredients, but spiked with their signature ingredient – argan oil.
Moroccanoil, as a brand, strongly believes in sustainability and in making the world a better and more beautiful place to live in.
They believe that each and everyone has a responsibility in creating a positive impact on Earth and to give back to the environment. They also have a joint partnership with Oceana, to save the oceans over the world.
Redken was founded in 1960 by Paula Kent who was a pioneer in revolutionary changes made in the haircare industry. Redken is a brand that makes haircare and hair coloring products that are known for their unparalleled creativity.
They have a team of experts in the field of research and innovation who created groundbreaking products with their main priority as their clients in mind. They believe in creating products that do exactly as the product description states it would!
Redken believes in being a sustainable brand and makes all their hair care bottles and packaging with around 93% of recycled plastic, so they can contribute to saving the environment.
Moroccan oil believes in environmental sustainability like the prevention of groundwater contamination and they also believe in recycling everything that can be recycled.
They also produce their own solar power at their main factory, to help curb greenhouse gas emissions.
They also have confirmed that all their products and ingredients are cruelty-free and aren’t tested on animals during trials or even once their products are ready for use.
Redken also believes in environmental sustainability and ensures that their product bottles and packaging are made from mostly recyclable plastic.
Similar to Moroccanoil, Redken too no longer has any of their product and ingredient testing done on animals. They also have products that are completely vegan.
While argan oil is the main ingredient in Moroccanoil products, they also add other natural ingredients like glycerin, plant extracts, etc.
They also have products that are completely free from all harsh chemicals like sulfates, parabens, phosphates, silicones, etc.
The products at Redken too are made with similar natural ingredients like argan oil, castor oil, linalool, omega-6 fatty acids, and plant extracts.
Redken too have products that are made free from sulfates, parabens and other types of harsh chemicals.
Range of products
Moroccanoil has a wide range of products for both haircare, hair styling, and body care. The range of products for hair care includes shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments, hair masks, heat protectant sprays, hair sprays, dry shampoos etc, in addition to hair styling products as well.
These hair care products are suitable to all hair types and textures, meant to treat different hair problems.
Their body care products include oils, hand washes, shower gels, moisturizers, body mists, exfoliants etc.
While Redken does not have products for body care, they do have products for hair care, hair styling and hair coloring.
Some of their hair care products include shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, hair treatments, etc. Their hair styling products include pomades, hair gels, hair waxes, sprays, dry shampoos etc.
In addition to this, they also have hair coloring products available in many different hair colors.
The products at Moroccanoil are slightly lesser priced as compared to those at Redken.
But overall, there are products available in different price ranges in both brands, depending on the quantity of product you are purchasing.
Here is my review of two shampoos that I tried from these brands.
I had tried the Moroccanoil Purple Shampoo in the past for when my hair was dyed blonde and it worked wonders on my hair and got rid of the brassy tones within just a few washes. So I was pretty certain that this smoothing shampoo too would be good.
Well, it absolutely was! I loved the fact that it reduced the static in my hair and brought down my frizziness considerably. It hydrated my hair to a great extent and that reduced the dryness.
So when my hair was no longer too dry, the frizz also reduced over time. Also, my hair felt smoother and much softer with just a few washes. I actually saw results much earlier than I had expected!
It also renewed my hair shine and brought back lustre to my locs. So this is something I loved about this product. My hair feels way more manageable now than ever!
The shampoo contained no sulfates and felt super gentle on my hair and sensitive scalp. It also cleansed my scalp and hair well.
The smell of this shampoo was super amazing and mild, just how I like it. It made my hair smell so heavenly and fresh once it dried up.
The only thing what I didn’t like about this shampoo was its price. In my opinion, it was really too expensive, even though it was a 1 litre bottle. I for sure overpaid!
To be honest, I would have stuck to buying the Moroccanoil Smoothing Shampoo again because of how much I loved it and how well it worked on my hair.
The only reason I chose the Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo was that the shampoo I wanted was out of stock for quite a while and I didn’t even find it in my local store.
So that’s when I did some research and found another frizz-reduction shampoo, the Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo.
Well, since the Moroccanoil Smoothing Shampoo had done a great job at reducing my frizz, this shampoo had to only maintain my hair.
What I found is that it didn’t really maintain it too well. It did a pretty average job. I felt like it dried my hair out a little, even though it contained no sulfates.
But it felt gentle on the scalp and didn’t make my scalp itch. So that was not bad. Also, it did a good job at cleansing my hair and scalp. The scent of this shampoo was very average too. It was pleasant, but not to my liking.
What I didn’t like was that the description of the shampoo stated that it was liquid in consistency, but when I got the product, it felt like a thick cream or lotion.
This made it hard to apply on the hair and I had to dilute it each time with a lot of water for it to lather.
Coming to the pricing, my opinion would be that it is expensive and I honestly think that I paid too much for it.
Moroccanoil vs Redken: FAQs
How do you use Moroccanoil and Redken shampoos?
You can use both these shampoos just how you’d use any other cleansing shampoo.
Wet your hair well, evenly apply the shampoo all over your hair and leave it in for a few minutes before thoroughly washing it off. Make sure to condition after.
Tip: For the Redken shampoo, you can dilute it with a little water for easier application.
As a shampoo brand, Moroccanoil vs. Redken, which would you pick?
Overall, I would definitely pick the Moroccanoil brand if I had to buy one of these two shampoo brands again.
I loved every single aspect of the Moroccanoil shampoo I tried, from its frizz-taming power to it bringing lustre and life back to my locs and it also helped soften, moisturize and smoothen my hair very well.
It also had better and more hydrating ingredients as compared to the Redken shampoo.
Summary: Moroccanoil vs. Redken
Overall, we can definitely conclude that both these brands are pretty much at par with each other. Both these brands have haircare and hair styling products in common. While Moroccanoil has body care products as well, Redken has hair coloring products that Moroccanoil lacks.
So in my opinion, I definitely would consider both these brands as good options to purchase any products from, because of their wide range and variety of products available.
