I am someone who simply loves experimenting with my hair! From dyeing my hair different colours, to straightening it, to getting a perm, you name it; my hair has been through it.
Well, it is definitely all thanks to my own doing that my hair has become so damaged over the years and finally I had to call it a day and just let my hair be – free from dyeing, free from any treatments, just natural, so I could give it time to recover (yes before I start experimenting again!) along with taking care of it with a good shampoo and hair care products.
So as part of my hair “recovery” routine, I decided that maybe using a good damage-relief shampoo could help. Well, I tried several shampoos from different brands and none of them did any good to my hair.

That’s when someone advised me to do some background research on a few brands to get more information about the product I am buying.
Well, since that did help me, here I am talking to you guys about the two brands I liked the most – ‘OGX’ and ‘Love Beauty and Planet’.

About OGX
OGX is a brand that was founded in Florida by a stylist, in 1987. As a brand OGX is well-known for the production of superior quality of products, which are specially customized to suit customers with any hair type or hair texture.
The best part about this brand is that their products are gender-neutral and can be used by anyone!
At OGX they have their own team of experts researching on ingredients and they make their products using the finest quality ingredients.
Each of these ingredients are targeted at boosting hair health and reducing hair damage and other types of hair problems. They make their products smell pleasant and have a long lasting after-fragrance.
They wish to let their customers have a “spa-experience” whenever they use a product manufactured by OGX, but of course, in the comfort of their own homes and at a cheaper and affordable price.
OGX also believes in environmental sustainability and do not like to see any of their product bottles collecting in the Earth’s landfills. Therefore, they aim that by 2025, all their bottles should be made a 100% recyclable.

Love Beauty and Planet was founded in 2017 and is currently owned by Unilever. They are an American brand that is completely vegan and have all products to do with personal care.
Love Beauty and Planet is a global brand that sells its products in over 10 countries all around the world. From skin care to beauty and hair care products, they have it all!
They make their products out of ingredients that are naturally derived and they make sure not to alter them too much from their original state in order to get their best benefits.
Love Beauty and Planet, as a brand are much into sustainability and environmental protection and make sure to use 100% recyclable materials for all their product bottles and manufacturing. They also use scents that are ethically sourced and they make sure to use ingredients that are sustainable in order to reduce their carbon footprint.

Brand Ethics
OGX has good brand ethics. They are an environmentally-sustainable brand that creates products based on the aspect of saving the environment. They aim at keeping their products away from collecting in the earth’s landfills and thereby wish to reduce waste collection.
While they aren’t completely free from animal cruelty, they have made a start at ensuring that their cosmetic range of products is free from animal testing during their manufacturing stage. They support non-animal testing methods in order to support the welfare of animals.
As a brand, Love Beauty and Planet ensure that all their products are made completely of vegan ingredients (as certified by the Vegan Action Standards) and are also completely cruelty-free (as certified by PETA).
They believe in environmental sustainability and aim at conservation of water, recycling of plastic and reducing their carbon footprint.

At OGX, you can often see that they mention their main ingredient right on their product label. OGX is a brand that most often uses natural ingredients in their products like tea tree oil, argan oil, shea butter, coconut oil, etc.
They avoid using ingredients like sulfates (sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate), parabens, plastic microbeads, paraffins, silicones, colorants etc., in their products.
Love Beauty and Planet products also use naturally-derived ingredients like hemp seed oil, Indian lilac, shea butter, yuzu etc., and contain no sulfates, parabens and silicones.
Range of Products
OGX has a very wide range of products and the best part is that they cater to the needs of everyone. They have products for hair care, body care and skin care, in addition to cosmetics.
Their hair care products include shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments, hair mists, hair masks, hair oils etc. The body care products include lotions and body wash products. Their range of skin care products includes moisturizers and skin exfoliants.
At Love Beauty and Planet, their range of products includes hair care and skin care products. Their hair care products include shampoos, conditioners, shampoo bars etc., in addition to skin care products like hand washes, body washes, lotions, bath bombs etc.
Pricing
The products sold by OGX are quite reasonably priced and are in my opinion, affordable to all classes of people. Since I was looking to buy a hair care product, I only checked out those prices and the products started at $5.99, which was quite reasonable.
As for Love Beauty and Planet, their hair care products (as researched by me) start at around $10. So it is slightly higher than OGX product prices, but still quite reasonable.
Product Comparison
I tried out the OGX Extra Strength Hydrate and Repair Shampoo specifically designed for damaged hair from the brand OGX and the Love Beauty and Planet Hope and Hair Repair Shampoo from the brand Love Beauty and Planet, again specifically designed for damaged hair.
The reason I tried shampoos with the same target issues in both brands is so that I could give you guys a fair review of the products.
The OGX Extra Strength Hydrate and Repair Shampoo promised hair hydration and intense repair that is good for dry and damaged hair types. But did it work as promised? Yes, indeed it definitely did!
It was super moisturizing to my hair and helped rejuvenate and treat my hair damage to a great extent. I was certain that this was because it had ingredients like argan oil and silk amino acids that are nourishing in nature.
This shampoo contained absolutely no sulfates or parabens, so it was super gentle on my hair.
Also, it worked perfectly well on my coloured hair and it did not dry out my hair nor did it fade my hair colour drastically, so I loved it.
The conditioner also made my hair feel soft, smooth and easy to manage. The shampoo is liquid in texture and lathers well.
I bought this shampoo-conditioner set on Amazon and I paid $15.98 for it. I thought it was quite reasonably priced and I felt like it was definitely worth the price I paid.
On the other hand, I tried the Love Beauty and Planet Hope and Hair Repair Shampoo. This product was relatively good, but I have to say, this particular shampoo wasn’t better than the OGX damage-repair one (if I had to pick just one).
This shampoo did make my hair feel soft and smooth and using the conditioner helped keep my flyaways at bay.
It was completely free from sulfates, parabens and other harsh chemicals, so it was gentle on the hair and did not dry my hair out. The two main ingredients were coconut oil and ylang-ylang essential oil which helped moisturize my hair well.
It is liquid in texture, lathers very well and is super easy to use too. Very similar to the OGX shampoo or any other cleansing shampoo for that matter.
The only thing I didn’t like was the powerful scent of this shampoo and this would be one of the main reasons I wouldn’t want to buy this product again.
I do not like powerful fragrances as I am scent-sensitive and this was quite strong, even though it wasn’t bad.
Lastly, I bought this shampoo on Amazon for $15.88, which I felt was quite expensive for just the shampoo.
Summary
The fast-rinse technology is one that is developed specifically to help reduce the wastage of water. This can be done because the hair care products made by Love Beauty and Planet converse water as they rinse off in no time.
This is because the product molecules get broken down quickly and wash off faster. Well, the brand OGX makes no specific mention about being free from animal cruelty when it comes to their hair care products, but they ensure that none of the products in their cosmetic range are tested on animals.
So, no, they are not completely animal cruelty-free as a brand. As global brands, I honestly think that both these brands deserve the fame and recognition they get!
They are at par with each other in almost all aspects from environmental sustainability, to product range, to pricing and ingredient use.
The only thing the brand OGX lacks is their attempt to reduce animal cruelty in their overall product testing, which I really hope can be a matter they look into over time.
