Pureology Vs Joico 2023 | Which Brand’s Better For Color-Treated Hair

Want to know which hair care brand in Pureology vs Joico is better for color-treated hair. Find out below!

If you have color-treated hair, then a regular shampoo wouldn’t be suitable for you. Most drugstore shampoos contain harsh surfactants including sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate which can remove dye pigments from hair.

These shampoos contain these ingredients as they help in removing dirt, oil and buildup from hair and scalp. But on the other hand, it can also remove dye from hair making your hair color fade very quickly.

So there are certain shampoos that are specifically created for colored hair. Most often these shampoos are sulfate-free or even completely surfactant free. And they also contain certain ingredients that can help prevent hair dye from fading.

Two such hair care brands include Pureology and Joico which have several ranges of shampoos, conditioners, hair serums, creams, etc. that cater to color-treated and damaged hair.

But which of these brands are best for your tresses? Well, let’s find out!

Pureology Vs Joico

Who Is Pureology

Pureology is a USA based company that started in 2001 in California. This brand prides itself on being 100 percent vegan. I also loved the fact that they do not test on animals at all. So they’re cruelty-free.

But what’s more, these shampoos are also completely free of sulfates. It’s not just SLS and SLES, it’s actually free from all types of surfactants.

So all Pureology shampoos use corn, sugar, coconut-derived cleansers, etc. that help remove dirt and grease from your hair without leaving your hair dry, irritated and protected from hair color fading.

Another good thing about the Pureology shampoos is that they are free of mineral oils and parabens. The latter is a preservative that is linked to endocrine disorders. So I’m happy to see Pureology doesn’t use it in its products.

Pureology was acquired by L’Oreal in 2007.

Who Is Joico

Joico is a much older brand than Pureology as it was established in 1965. But just like the Pureology brand it is a homegrown USA brand as it was created by a salon owner in Southern California.

Joico contains a lot of different lines of hair products. Most of the products from Joico are geared towards color-correcting dyed hair. So you’ll find a lot of red shampoos, blue shampoos, purple shampoos, etc. in this brand’s line.

Also, Joico also focuses more on damaged hair which a lot of its ingredients, patented formulas, etc. are geared towards reconstructing damaged strands by adding back proteins.

Comparing The Two Brands: Pureology Vs Joico

Pureology and Joico are two of the most popular hair care brands in the world. They both offer a variety of products designed to improve your hair health and shine. However, there are some key similarities and differences between them that you should be aware of.

  • Both brands offer a wide range of hair care products, from shampoo to conditioner to styling tools.
  • They both have a reputation for producing high quality results. Many people love their Pureology or Joico products, and they tend to be very affordable compared to other luxury brands like Bumble & Bumble or Kerastase Professional.
  • Their formulas are often designed with natural ingredients that help promote healthy hair growth and prevent damage from occurring.
Do hair stylists recommend Pureology

  • Pureology is known for its emphasis on color-protection, hydration and having a sulfate-free formula feel while Joico is known for its more cleansing properties and emphasis on creating products like purple shampoos, red shampoos, etc.
  •  Joico’s hair care line tends to be less expensive than Pureology’s, making it an ideal choice if you’re looking for full salon style coverage without spending too much money per bottle/item .
  • As I mentioned above, Pureology focuses on color maintenance while Joico includes treatments such as keratin smoothing treatments specifically aimed at improving color integrity .

Pureology Hydrate Conditioner Vs Joico Color Endure Conditioner

Let me start off by saying that the Pureology conditioner is way, way more expensive than the Joico conditioner .

I got the 250ml Pureology conditioner for $61 (yes, I know!) but the Joico conditioner was $58 for the large 1 liter bottle.

There is no easy answer to this question as the best conditioner for each individual may vary depending on their hair type, hair density, and other personal preferences.

Joico is known for its high-quality ingredients and formulas, which are designed to give you long-lasting results. Pureology, on the other hand, is a brand that is known for its gentle formulas and its ability to condition hair without weighing it down.

Ultimately, it is important to test out different conditioners in store before making a purchase. This way, you can find the shampoo that best suits your needs and goals. Hope this helps!

I think the keratin, argan oil and African manketti formula of the Joico conditioner is most suited to someone with dry, damaged and color-treated hair.

However, the Jojoba, green tea and sage formula of Pureology is better for fine, thin hair textures or if you have an oily scalp.

Which Brand Is Better For Color Treated Hair

I think all things considered Pureology shampoos are much better than Joico shampoos for color-treated hair.

To preserve color vibrancy and guarantee long-lasting color payoff, this shampoo brand incorporates a proprietary ingredient blend into each composition.

There’s components like  Sunflower Seed, UV Filters, and Vitamin E that help protect color while preventing fading caused by environmental factors. There’s also a  proprietary ingredient that gently cleanses without removing color.

This blend contains mild surfactants derived from corn, coconut, and sugar. So there’s absolutely no sulfates here.

All of this makes the Pureology shampoos much gentler and much appropriate for color-treated hair.

FAQs about the Pureology Vs Joico Shampoo Brands

Do hair stylists recommend Pureology?

Yes of course! A lot of the best hair stylists do recommend Pureology and use it in their salons as well. Also, many people who have tried the brand swear by its effectiveness in maintaining healthy hair and preventing breakage.
Some of the main ingredients in Pureology include Wheat Germ Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Grape Seed Extracts, Conditioning Herbs (including Rosemary), and Panthenol. These ingredients work together synergistically to support hair health and prevent frizziness and damage from environmental exposure.
In addition, Pureology contains a range of vitamins and minerals that are essential for scalp health such as zinc and copper. So if you’re looking for a reputable brand with comprehensive hair care products that you can trust – check out Pureology!

Is joico good for dry hair?

Many people think that joico shampoos are good for dry hair, but this is not always the case. While some joico shampoos may contain ingredients that are helpful in moisturizing and treating dry hair, others can actually be detrimental to your hair’s health as they contain SLS and SLES. For best results, it is recommended that you consult with a hairstylist or expert who can recommend a specific shampoo designed specifically for your type of hair. Or simply buy a version of Joico shampoo that is sulfate-free and contains ingredients that moisturize your hair like glycerin, argan oil, etc.

Is Pureology made by L Oreal?

Technically no, Pureology wasn’t created by L’Oreal. It was established in 2001. However, L’Oreal did acquire the brand in 2007, so it’s the parent company for Pureology now.

Does Joico have sulfates?

Unfortunately yes, some Joico shampoo do contain SLS and SLES. While Joico does contain sulfates, they are highly purified and considered to be safe for hair. Sulfates perform a number of functions in the shampoo, including smoothing out the hair shaft and creating a lather that cleanses the scalp. They also help to remove excess oils and dirt from the hair follicles.

Does Pureology have sulfates?

Pureology shampoo is free of sulfates, which makes it a suitable choice for those with sensitive skin. Sulfates can be harsh on the skin and may cause allergic reactions in some people. Additionally, sulfates are also known to strip the natural oil from your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle over time.

Summary on Pureology Vs Joico For Colored Hair

Both Pureology and Joico are hair care brands that focus on restoring damaged hair, preventing frizz, and promoting healthy growth. They both have a wide range of products designed to meet the needs of every individual’s hair type and style.

Pureology and Joico both offer a wide range of product categories, including shampoos, conditioners, treatments, etc. I like how both brands emphasize using gentle ingredients over harsh cleansing ones.

Last but not the least, I liked that both brands are known for their luxurious packaging and delicious fragrance profiles.
