TRESemmé Botanique Nourish Hair

TRESemmé Botanique Nourish Hair Shampoo vs. Dove Derma Care Shampoo | Which Shampoo Is Best In 2024

In this TRESemmé Botanique Nourish Hair Shampoo vs. Dove Derma Care Shampoo review, we will be comparing and contrasting the two shampoos head-to-head to help you decide which one is better for you.

Dandruff and flaking is a common problems that many people face and unfortunately, I am one of them. I have been dealing with dandruff for many years now and to be honest, I was sick and tired of trying out different shampoos to get rid of my dandruff. Seeing those white flakes fall over my shoulders was quite embarrassing.

Luckily for me, I found the product that was my saving grace, after all the years of itching my scalp and dealing with dandruff flakes, I found it – the Dove Derma Care Shampoo! It was a really good shampoo specifically made for dandruff reduction and worked really well on my hair.

So after I found the right shampoo, I kept re-buying the same product for a year and a half until this one time it was out of stock both on Amazon and in my local store.

After trying both these shampoos, here is my comparative review!

Tresemmé Shampoo: The Ingredients

Even though this shampoo doesn’t directly target the cure of dandruff, it has got three powerful ingredients that are capable of reducing dandruff and decreasing its effects on the scalp.

TRESemmé Botanique Nourish Hair Shampoo Ingredients

The main ingredient in this shampoo is aloe vera extract which can help fight dandruff as it keeps the hair moisturized and reduces dryness, while it is rich in antioxidants that can prevent further dandruff formation. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the itching caused due to dandruff.

The other ingredients are coconut extract (oil) which keeps the scalp well-moisturized and reduces skin dryness and can prevent the further formation of dandruff flakes, along with the ingredient glycerin which acts like a natural humectant and can reduce dandruff considerably.

The texture of the shampoo:

I definitely liked the texture of this shampoo. While it was not completely “liquid”, it was semi-liquid in consistency which was pretty easy to use, especially when used to lather into wet hair.

Effectiveness on my hair:

So this shampoo did not cure my dandruff, but it for sure reduced it a little, but more so, it reduced the dryness on my scalp that stopped the itching. It also made my hair feel softer in texture.

Its usage:

I always dilute my shampoo with a little water when I use it. I do this for easy application and so that’s what I did here too and it lathered really well after.

The packaging:

In terms of packaging, this bottle comes with a press and open/close cap. So after frequent usage, I noticed that shampoo residue settles in the area. So, when you travel, it leaks out a little. Also, the bottle size is 700 ml, so it is not too travel-friendly.

Price:

I paid $6.98 (which I got at a discount), which I felt was a pretty good and reasonable rate for a 700 ml bottle. Also, I bought it off of Amazon as I didn’t find this product on the official TRESemmé website.

Dove Shampoo: The Ingredients

The main ingredients of this shampoo are shea butter and coconut oil. I always like the use of the ingredient shea butter for the hair because it is a super powerful moisturizing agent when it comes to hair care and that’s exactly what a dandruff-infected scalp requires.

Dove Shampoo: The Ingredients

The shea butter helps calm the irritation on the scalp as it has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, while the coconut oil can help reduce dry skin and itching.

The texture of the shampoo:

The texture of this shampoo is semi-liquid; But when used on wet hair, it rakes up a good lather.

Effectiveness on my hair:

This shampoo was super effective in treating my dandruff. I actually saw the change on my scalp. The flakes had reduced and the itching stopped after a few uses and that was a big relief! It also reduced scalp dryness and made hair feel soft and smooth.

Its usage:

Since this shampoo has a semi-liquid consistency, I diluted it with a little water before each use and then applied it on my damp hair. It then lathered well.

The packaging:

I really liked the packaging of this shampoo. It came with a lid that flips open and shuts tightly. So shampoo doesn’t leak out even when you travel. But since the bottle is 355 ml, I wouldn’t call it travel-friendly.

Price:

Well, I got this shampoo for a steal, when it was on discount (on Amazon) and paid just $4.89! So I truly felt it was reasonably priced and definitely worth it, after seeing its benefits on my scalp and hair.

A Comparison Of The Brands

Effectiveness on the hair:

Since we are considering the treatment of dandruff, I would have to say that the Dove shampoo worked better in terms of its effectiveness because it actually showed good results in treating my scalp dryness and reduced the flaking on my scalp to a considerable extent.

Gentleness on the scalp:

Both these shampoos contain sulfates, which I personally didn’t like, but bought them anyway to help get rid of my dandruff. Luckily for me, they weren’t harsh on my scalp.

Use on colour-treated hair:

My hair was not coloured when I initially started using Dove. I coloured it three months into using the Dove shampoo and found that it didn’t damage my hair colour and neither did the TRESemmé shampoo. So, I’d say that both these shampoos are safe to use on hair that is colour-treated.

Fragrance:

Both these shampoos have a coconut fragrance. Well, personally, I do like the scent of coconuts in general, because it gives off a very tropical smell. So I liked the fragrance of both these shampoos. They were relatively mild and not overpowering and made my hair smell fresh once it dried.

Pricing:

In terms of pricing, I’d have to say that both these shampoos were reasonably priced. But in terms of quantity, I think that the TRESemmé shampoo has a better price-quantity ratio as compared to the Dove shampoo.

Summary: Which would be my choice?

Since my main intention of using these shampoos was for treating my dandruff, flaking and scalp dryness, I’d have to choose the Dove Derma Care Shampoo.

This is because the formula in general actually helped treat my dandruff and reduce the flaking and itchiness, while it also made my hair feel soft and smooth.

While the TRESemmé Botanique Nourish Hair Shampoo did not treat my dandruff per say (because its formula is not specifically meant for dandruff reduction), I wouldn’t consider using this shampoo again for my dandruff issue, but as a shampoo in general, it is definitely a great product, as it helps moisturize the hair and keeps it soft, smooth and lustrous.
