Schwarzkopf vs Matrix
Who Is Schwarzkopf?
This is a popular brand you will come across while searching for haircare products. It was founded way back in 1903 by Hans Schwarzkopf. One thing I personally adore about this company is that they have a wide range of high-quality products.
It was acquired by Henkel in 1995 and has become one of the world’s most successful hair care brands ever since.
Another interesting fact is that Schwarzkopf was the first company to invent liquid shampoo, powder shampoo, and hairspray.
The company still keeps innovating and elevating its formulas and hair care products to keep their promise to inspire and celebrate the uniqueness of every individual.
I personally think what makes the company so successful is the key competencies that it stands for like quality, innovation, trust, reliability and competence.
Driven by a passion for creating beautiful hair, we can find an umbrella of products offered by the company including hair styling, hair coloration and hair care.
Also, it’s really hard not to miss the company’s silhouette trademark which is placed on every product package.
Who Is Matrix?
The name itself was inspired by the idea of togetherness and synergy, founded by the famous hairdresser Arnie Miller in 1980, it is one of the top leading hair care professionals and hair color companies in the United States.
You will be fascinated to know that it is actually a part of L’Oreal USA’s Professional Products Division.
With a sense of belonging for all hairdressers created by Arnie, inspired the popular Matrix Mantra- Think, Believe, Dream and Dare.
Basically, he wanted to create a matrix of support for every hairdresser and stylist, every business model and hair type- a brand where everyone feels welcome.
You can find a wide array of products related to haircare, hair color and texturizing products such as Biolage, Gloss Sync, Colorinsider, Style wave and much more!
Comparing the Two Brands
To mention a few common key ingredients used in both the brands- Aqua, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethicone, Perfume, Sodium Hydroxide.
Brand Ethics & Eco-friendliness
As a part of their sustainability program, Schwarzkopf uses fifty percent less fossil-based virgin plastic and reduces plastic waste disposal.
The brand also supports recycling and waste collection. They also initiated the-“Be smarter. Recycle” to inspire their consumers to adopt a more sustainable approach.
Matrix promises customers that each new formula launched as well as each packaging will be clean or be optimized in less plastic or recycled plastic.
Range of Products
The Matrix brand offers a wide array of shampoos, conditioners, oils, serums, boosters, leave-in creams, treatment products, and hair masques meant to nourish and protect hair.
The Matrix Biolage, Biolage Advanced and Biolage Core range of hair care products work on different kinds of hair meant to clean, repair, smoothen and moisturize.
So no matter your hair’s type and needs, the brand offers you different solutions to all hair needs and problems such as dry, damaged, coloured treated hair, straightened hair and so on.
The Matrix Opti range of professional hair products is also available for long or treated hair. These products are focused on moisturizing, taming frizz, adding shine, and making hair more manageable.
Schwarzkopf also has a very popular brand under it known as göt2b that offers a wide range of gels, sprays, waxes, glues, and pomade for both men and women. Other brands under this include-Keratin color, Color Ultime, Simply Color, Color Boost, and Glossy.
Schwarzkopf is a much cheaper brand compared to Matrix and so if you would like to save on a couple of bucks, you can opt for this brand.

Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Color Shampoo V/S Matrix Biolage Colour Care Shampoo
The reason why I chose to review these two products is that they are specially designed for color-treated hair and I found them more effective than other shampoos I used.
They also worked well and did not cause any unnecessary dryness for my hair and retained my hair gloss and shine.
Most of the Schwarzkopf shampoo bottles that I have seen come in the same shape except for their color. I really love the big 400 ml size and its bright red colored plastic bottle.
The Matrix Shampoo Bottle comes in an elegant white color bottle and 200 ml in size. Both shampoos have a cute flip-flop top.
The Schwarzkopf shampoo lathers quite well and I was totally impressed by how great it was to clean my oily scalp in just one wash.
I found the texture a little too creamy for my liking but it’s pretty okay to be honest. I fell in love with the fragrance as it smelled so fresh and no kidding, it lasted for at least two days.
This Matrix shampoo comes with a creamy texture, and I love how it lathers well. The smell was quite overpowering according to me, but certainly not unpleasant.
You can head over to amazon and buy a small quantity first to check and see if it works for you. The Schwarzkopf shampoo costs around 7 dollars for 250 ml and the Matrix Shampoo costs around 37 dollars for 200 ml.
Since I always get my hair color done at the salon, I am very picky about the shampoos and aftercare. When it comes to shampoos, my demands are simple: it should clean my oily scalp and it should give my hair that extra bounce and shine.
To my surprise, the Schwarzkopf shampoo fulfilled both demands. You see, color protect shampoos can be quite moisturizing and this one is no exception.
I love how it helped in terms of retaining my hair color and providing my hair with the hydration it requires.
On the other hand, the Matrix shampoo did protect my color-treated hair a tad bit better than ordinary shampoos. However, it did not clean my oily scalp as well as the first product did.
But, it did retain the shiny look and vibrance that I wanted, and I loved how it’s totally paraben free. When I used it the first time without the conditioner, my hair felt dry, so when I paired it with the conditioner I found my hair much smoother and shiner.
It would be better to use Schwarzkopf after hair smoothening because they offer better products in this regard.
Both Matrix and Schwarzkopf are professionally accredited brands but in terms of this factor, Schwarzkopf products have a cream consistency so it lathers properly and is better than Matrix in terms of coverage.
Both are winners in this factor as they offer customers a wide range of natural and sustainable products. This brand has incredible products to help with hair strengthening and making it stronger.
They also offer shampoos and conditioners to make your hair smooth and glossy, making it more manageable and tangle-free. Their products are available in more than 130 countries.
This brand also offers consumers with products to help smoothness in the hair, taming frizziness and protect chemically treated hair. Some shampoos are very intense and help protect hair from external aggressors.
When you choose between the two brands, always keep in mind which one will be more suitable for your hair type and texture.
A friendly piece of advice I would give you is try a brand and stick to one if it does not damage your hair color.
Remember, your hair is exactly like your skin and can be sensitive to new products so once you know what works best for your hair, just stick to it.
Both brands have a number of products to choose from so don’t be afraid to experiment and try out what works best for you.
Now that you have read my comprehensive analysis between the two, the choice is yours…..Good luck!
